Delhi-NCR Rains: The national capital and surrounding areas woke up to another spell of heavy rain on Wednesday morning, bringing relief from the heat but also leading to waterlogging and traffic snarls. Parts of Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon were hit by strong winds, thunderstorms, and steady showers early in the day, continuing the wet spell that began on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, heavy showers had already caused significant waterlogging in parts of south and southwest Delhi. Wednesday saw similar scenes, with many low-lying areas submerged and vehicles struggling to move through flooded roads.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected to persist through the day, with cloudy skies forecast for the rest of the week. While no weather warning has been issued for Delhi today, high humidity levels and temperatures hovering around 31 degrees C are expected to persist. The minimum temperature is likely to remain close to 27 degrees C.
"Generally cloudy Sky. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning is likely to occur over Delhi on 22nd and 23rd July 2025, and light rain is likely thereafter," the IMD said in a statement.
According to the IMD, there will be generally cloudy skies with very light to light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms/lightning for the next seven days.
The change in weather has brought mixed reactions. While the drop in temperature was a welcome break from the heatwave conditions of recent weeks, the rain also led to challenges for daily commuters. “The rain gave great relief to the people of Delhi from heat and humidity,” said one local, but added that navigating the roads became difficult due to flooding and traffic congestion. Tuesday’s rain began in the morning and continued through the day, impacting movement across the city.
Noida and Ghaziabad also experienced intense rainfall, with stormy conditions reported in several parts. The IMD has said that similar weather is expected to continue in the NCR region for the next few days.

On Thursday, July 24, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue with cloudy skies and chances of thunderstorms. Temperatures in the capital are forecast to stay between 32 degrees C and 34 degrees C, with the minimum likely to fall to around 23 degrees C–25 degrees C.

Gurgaon: Light Thunderstorms, Scattered Rain Continue
In Gurugram, scattered rain and mild thunderstorms followed Tuesday’s showers. The IMD has forecast a high of 31 degrees C and a low of 27 degrees C for the city, but the high humidity levels mean it could feel as hot as 39 degrees C. Winds are expected to come in from the west at 10 km/h.
Although no major disruptions were reported on Tuesday, the forecast of on-and-off showers means traffic and civic authorities remain on alert. "Commuters should remain vigilant," a local official warned, as several zones prone to water accumulation such as Sector 14, Sector 29, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, and parts of Golf Course Road may still witness flooding.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) also flagged concerns regarding CD Chowk, where drainage issues near an ongoing construction site have raised the risk of severe waterlogging. Motorists are urged to avoid underpasses and congested routes during periods of heavy rain. Key roads including NH-48 and Sohna Road could see slow-moving traffic during peak hours.
