The India Meteorological Department has predicted a dust storm followed by thunderstorms and light rain for several parts of Delhi-NCR, where the city is grappling with a severe heatwave. The weather agency has also issued an advisory with information on affected areas, temperatures, and necessary precautions.

Strong surface winds are expected to move across Loni Dehat, Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad, and Ballabhgarh carrying dust-laden gusts. A yellow alert has also been issued for Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad, predicting the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms.

The present weather phenomena are said to be attributed to a western disturbance located over Jammu and the neighbourhood and a trough running from Punjab to the Northeast Arabian Sea. A fresh western disturbance is likely to hit Northwest India from May 28.

No significant change in the maximum temperatures is predicted till May 27, with warm night conditions to prevail on May 25 and 26. After May 27, the maximum temperatures are likely to decrease by 7-8 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures also dropping by 5-7 degrees Celsius after May 28. Heat wave conditions will remain in the region on May 26-27.

Safdarjung in Delhi has reported a maximum temperature of around 43-44 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature above 30 degrees Celsius, which is significantly above normal. 

The region is experiencing westerly winds with moderately strong gusts. The people have been advised to take precaution during strong winds and lightning as it will lead to lightning and to take adequate water intake during heat. Residents must try to remain inside houses for long hours.
