Delhi-NCR Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday stated that the temperature in Delhi and nearby cities is likely to increase in the upcoming days. The advisory from the weather department came amid continuous rainfall, leading to waterlogging and cold surface winds. The IMD stated that the national capital is not likely to witness rainfall for the next few days; however, it clarified that the residents will experience cold in the upcoming weeks. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
While providing details, the weather department stated that the residents of the national capital are set to witness clear skies on Thursday and upcoming days. It further stated that while the maximum temperature is likely to be calculated at 31 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature is set to remain around 20 degrees Celsius. The IMD further assured that similar weather conditions will persist throughout the state until October 14-15. However, temperatures will rise slightly during this time, with maximum temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures reaching 22 degrees Celsius.
Earlier on Tuesday, the IMD stated that the residents of Delhi and other nearby cities are likely to witness the coldest winters in years due to La Niña effect. The weather department stated that the La Niña conditions is likely to develop in the later months of the year, leading to high fog frequencies and strong cold surface winds. While providing details, one of the IMD officials stated that La Niña is usually associated with colder winters in India.
"La Niña is usually associated with colder winters in India. While the warming effect of climate change can offset this to some extent, winters during La Niña years tend to be colder compared to years without it. This year overall may not rank among the hottest, as monsoon rainfall has already kept temperatures under control," a senior IMD official was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
