In an attempt to minimise air pollution in Delhi, the state government has implemented a scrappage policy for diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years on the national capital's roads. The authorities clarified that these vehicles will not get fuel after April 1 on Delhi's petrol pumps. Earlier last year, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court had already banned the plying of these vehicles on the city's roads.
While providing details, the advisory stated that the owners of these vehicles will have the right to select a vehicle scrapping center for the complete process. The owners can contact the scrapping center members and can book an appointment for the process. The government has already uploaded a list of the scrapping centers on the Delhi Transport Department website. Apart from this, the advisory also stated that some scrapping centers also provide an online booking facility.
However, the car owners are expected to keep some of the vital documents before going to these centers, including a vehicle registration certificate (RC), identity proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card etc) and a copy of the vehicle insurance policy ready. Upon reaching the scrapping centers, the vehicle will be given a price that depends on its weight and other factors.

The scrapping center will provide a certificate to the owners after evaluating all the factors. The advisory emphasised that the certificate will be essential to get benefits while purchasing any new vehicle. State governments usually provide a discount in road tax of up to 25 per cent on private vehicles.
Apart from this, President of the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association Nischal Singhania said that advanced cameras should be installed at fuel filling stations to detect such vehicles in Delhi NCR. "People from areas adjoining Delhi can get petrol or diesel filled and travel in Delhi. People get CNG kits installed in old vehicles. There are around 200 CNG pumps in Delhi. Such cameras should be installed on them too so that this rule can be strictly followed," Singhania was quoted as saying by ETV.
