Delhi Shuts Old Iron Bridge: The old Yamuna Bridge has been closed to both vehicular and pedestrian movement since Tuesday evening amid a flood threat in the Yamuna floodplains, as the river has crossed its danger mark.
The decision to close the old Yamuna bridge or Loha Pul came after a flood advisory was issued by the Central Water Commission (CWC), which warned of further water level rise due to water discharge from Hathni Kund barrage.
The District Magistrate of Shahdara issued the order to close the old Iron Bridge over the Yamuna River as the river flows near the danger mark.
Delhi Old Iron Bridge Closed: Here Are Alternate Routes
The traffic on the old Yamuna bridge has been closed from both sides, and it will stop operating from Tuesday evening. Here are alternate options that motorists have been asked to explore-
From ISBT towards South Delhi:
- Take the route via Majnu ka Tila, Signature Bridge, and Wazirabad Bridge.
- Take the route via Majnu ka Tila, Signature Bridge, and Wazirabad Bridge.
From North Delhi towards ISBT:
- Use the route via Pushta Road, Shastri Park, and Geeta Colony Bridge.
- Use the route via Pushta Road, Shastri Park, and Geeta Colony Bridge.
From East Delhi (Shahdara, Seelampur, Gandhi Nagar):
- Opt for the Geeta Colony Bridge or Pushta Road towards Shastri Park to reach your destination.
- Opt for the Geeta Colony Bridge or Pushta Road towards Shastri Park to reach your destination.
Old Yamuna Bridge Closed: Diversion Points
Hanuman Setu, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Geeta Colony, and Rajghat have been set up as diversion points.
Commuters have been requested to avoid travelling near the old bridge and allow extra time for the journey, as congestion on roads may cause delays. Public transport has been encouraged to be used, and motorists are advised to park their vehicles in designated places.

A Delhi Traffic Police spokesperson said: “Motorists are requested to cooperate with the diversions and follow the guidance of traffic personnel on duty. The closure is essential for public safety in view of the rising water levels in the Yamuna.”
