Old-Yamuna Bridge To Shut: District Magistrate Shahdara has announced to close the old Yamuna bridge for traffic purposes as the river has crossed the warning mark of 204, reaching 205 on Friday. The old Yamuna bridge will cease to operate for public and vehicular movement from 5 pm on Tuesday.

HathniKund Barrage in Haryana released significant water, causing the river level to rise to 204.94 metres at the Old Railway Bridge at 5 pm on Monday. The order issued by DDMA read, "In view of possible flooding in Yamuna River due to increase in its level beyond the danger mark, you are hereby directed to close down the traffic and public movement on the bridge with effect from September 2 at 5 PM.”

Yamuna Water Level Breaches Warning Mark

The warning mark is 204 for Delhi, while the danger mark is 205.33 meters. An order to vacate the surrounding areas is expected to be issued once the water level reaches a height of 206 meters. Conversely, authorities have already urged people living in the Yamuna floodplains to move to a safer places, as the water level is expected to reach 206 meters by Tuesday, given the persistent rise.

Flood Warning Issued In Delhi

A flood warning said, "As the water level at ORB may cross the danger level and is likely to reach 206.50 meters, all officers are hereby advised to keep a vigil in their respective areas and to take necessary action at vulnerable points."

The warning further added, "People residing within the river embankments shall be warned, and arrangements must be made to shift them to safer places.”
