- Delhi plans 25 new signal-free corridors
- U-turn model to improve traffic flow
- Reduces congestion, pollution, enhances safety
Delhi Traffic System: In a major update for the residents of Delhi, a proposal has been made to make 25 additional corridors signal-free to improve the traffic system and reduce pollution. The proposal, based on the recommendations of an NGO, has been made amid the ongoing efforts to make several major corridors signal-free. As per the proposal, the U-turn-based traffic management system can significantly improve the travel experience by reducing the traffic congestion.
Proposal For These Corridors
The experts have suggested making the Red Fort Circuit signal-free by stating that it will improve the traffic in several regions, including Chhatta Rail Junction, Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Daryaganj, Delhi Gate, Rajghat, Shanti Van, and Hanuman Temple. Apart from this, the authorities have also suggested removing traffic signals between the Patel Road-Karampura Flyover and Rajiv Chowk.
The proposal also includes Maharaja Nahar Singh Marg-Indralok Metro Station to Prembari Vehicle Underpass, Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, Captain Gaur Marg, Mathura Road-Ashram to Badarpur Border, Badli-Bawana Road, Okhla, Nehru Place, Chirag Delhi Flyover, IIT Flyover, Outer Ring Road covering Hauz Khas, Munirka, RK Puram and Rao Tula Ram Flyover, Ring Road-Mall Road to Civil Lines and UER-I-NH-44 to Narela and Bawana.
'Model Will Improve Traffic Flow'
As per the Joint CP (Traffic) Sanjay Tyagi, this model will be implemented wherever it seems appropriate, adding that the reduction of traffic signals will improve the traffic flow. "Our goal is to improve traffic flow by reducing unnecessary stopping at signals and also strengthen safety. We have improved traffic management by better deployment of personnel and constant monitoring," Tyagi was quoted as saying by Jagran.
"Additionally, work is underway on several signal-free corridors. Now, feasibility studies will be conducted on 25 more stretches, and this model will be implemented wherever it seems appropriate," he added. Along with improving the travel experience, the proposed model can also protect the trees from dust and chemical accumulation.
