In a major success, the Delhi Police busted an infant trafficking network and arrested its three members who were involved in selling newborns to rich families in the national capital and nearby cities.
The police said that three members of the syndicate were arrested in Delhi's Dwarka, however, the mastermind remains at large. The gang was active in multiple states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Delhi-NCR. In police action, a four-day-old newborn was also rescued.
As per the police, the gang has sold over 30 children to rich families in Delhi-NCR so far. The members of the syndicate used to kidnap children of poor families, mostly tribals, from the border areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan and sell them to the rich in the national capital region.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Anjali, Jitendra, and Yasmin. Among them, Anjali has a history in trafficking cases. She was arrested in another trafficking case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), but joined the gang after coming out on bail.
As part of the investigation, the police team analysed the CDR of over 20 suspicious cell phone numbers. Providing details about the police action, Dwarka DCP Ankit Chauhan said, "The team worked on classified information for 20 consecutive days after which they arrested the three people in Uttam Nagar on April 8."
During the interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that they had kidnapped newborns on the instructions of a woman named Saroj (40). The infants were then sold to rich families for Rs 5 to 10 lakh.
While Yasmeen used to kidnap the babies, Anjali would deliver them to families in Delhi-NCR. Mastermind Saroj's work was to deal directly with the families and collect money.
The Delhi Police has said that they have identified the families who bought infants and a legal actions will be taken against them.
