A police constable was stabbed to death by three men near Sant Ravidas Marg in the Govindpuri area during a night patrol early on Saturday, the police said. An attacker was killed in the encounter, and two others were arrested by the police by Saturday evening in response. The incident comes less than 24 hours after Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the law and order situation in a closed-door meeting with the Capital’s top cops.
Kiranpal Singh hails from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh and was inducted into Delhi Police as a constable in 2018. He was at the police booth near Arya Samaj mandir with constables Banai Singh and Sunil. The incident happened around 4:30 am when he decided to do a final round of patrolling before winding up. DCP (South East) Ravi Kumar informed that Kiranpal went towards Gali No. 13 for the patrolling, reported the Indian Express.

Police informed that the constable noticed three men—Raghav, aka Rocky (24), Krish, and Deepak—roaming around 5 am. “Kiran asked them where they were coming from. He then searched Raghav, took his phone and started inspecting it. Krish and Deepak provoked Kiran, and he answered them back. The argument escalated and Raghav, who had a hidden knife, allegedly stabbed Kiranpal in his chest and kidney,” a police officer was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

Constable Sunil, who returned after delivering some papers to Govindpuri police station around 4:45 am, could not see Kiran at the station, said DCP Kumar. There was no response from Kiran when a few of his colleagues tried to call him. Later, Sunil found Kiran dead outside Gali No. 13 around 5:30 am as he went out looking for him. “Sunil rushed Kiranpal to the Majeedia hospital, Hamdard Nagar, where he was declared dead upon arrival,” DCP Kumar was quoted as saying by the Indian Express. Deepak, one of the accused, was arrested by a Crime Branch team on the basis of a tip-off.
