Delhi News: Delhi Police have stepped up security arrangements across the national capital ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations. Nearly 20,000 police personnel, including traffic police and paramilitary forces, have been deployed to maintain law and order, officials said on Tuesday.

Authorities expect a large influx of visitors from neighbouring states such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during the year-end festivities, prompting tighter checks, especially at city borders.

Focus On Borders And Entry Points

Security has been strengthened at Delhi’s borders, with additional pickets, barricades and paramilitary forces deployed to prevent nuisance and unlawful activities. Police said heightened checks will be carried out at around 15 major entry points into the city.

An official said these measures are aimed at controlling crowd movement and preventing hooliganism, drunken driving and traffic violations during peak celebration days.

Traffic Control And Anti-Stunt Measures

The Delhi Traffic Police have prepared a detailed plan to curb motorcycle stunts and drunk driving. Extra personnel from various police stations will assist traffic teams during night hours.

Senior officers said vehicles involved in dangerous stunts will be seized immediately. Breath analyser tests will be conducted at multiple checkpoints, and violators will face strict penalties.

Key Areas Under Watch

Special attention will be given to crowded areas such as Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, major markets, malls and popular party zones. At Connaught Place, only vehicles with valid police-issued stickers will be allowed to enter the Inner Circle.

India Gate will also see heavy deployment, as large crowds traditionally gather there to welcome the New Year. Police pickets will be set up near hotels, nightlife hubs and public gathering spots.

Checks At Public Places And Shelters

Police teams are conducting verification drives at bus stands, railway stations, hotels, dharamshalas and night shelters. Officials said checks are underway to identify people staying without proper documents as part of a special drive against illegal occupancy.

Quick Response Teams Deployed

Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been stationed at strategic locations across the city to respond swiftly to any emergency. Designated traffic checkpoints with barricades have also been installed to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Delhi Police said station house officers have been instructed to remain on the streets with their teams during Christmas and New Year’s Eve to ensure public safety and prevent untoward incidents.
