The Delhi Police recovered 10 boxes containing nearly 500 live cartridges from a motorcyclist who was stopped during a routine check at a traffic picket in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar on Saturday afternoon. According to a senior police officer, the incident happened when two traffic inspectors were carrying out random inspections and stopped the two-wheeler approaching the police picket.
“On being signalled to stop, the rider slowed down for a brief second but suddenly started speeding, sensing trouble, and fled the spot. A backpack fell off his bike which contained the said cartridges… He was wearing a helmet, however, his motorcycle number plate is being traced,” said an officer, as quoted by an Indian Express report.
“A case under the Arms Act has been lodged and efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused person,” said Vichitra Veer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
In another update, last month, the Delhi Transport Department is developing a system to streamline traffic challan payments by sending automated messages directly to violators. These messages, delivered via SMS or WhatsApp, will provide detailed information about the violation and instructions for making the payment.
Upon clicking the payment option, the message will redirect the users to the payment gateway, which enables them to pay the fine easily. “The moment one clicks on the payment option on WhatsApp, they would be directed to a payment gateway with multiple options, including Bhim UPI,” TOI quoted a senior official as saying.
Transport department officials recently met with WhatsApp officials in this regard. The department aims to launch the system within the next six months.
