The Delhi Police is planning to approach the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) with a list of 18 former Ministers of State (MoS) and 12 former Members of Parliament (MPs) who continue to receive security cover after the completion of their tenures, as reported by The Indian Express.
The police intend to request the MHA's guidance on whether the security cover for these individuals should be retained.
Sources indicate that the Delhi Police headquarters recently conducted a security audit after noticing that multiple individuals had ongoing security cover, with some cases having gone without review for a long time.
"Following the audit, the security cover of many individuals was removed. However, it was also found that several MoS, MPs, and other individuals still retained security cover even after completing their designated tenures," a source informed The Indian Express.

According to the audit report, the list includes former MoS with Y-category security cover: Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Devusinh Chauhan, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, Jasvantsinh Bhabhor, John Barla, Kaushal Kishore, Krishna Raj, Manish Tewari, PP Chaudhary, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Rameswar Teli, SS Ahluwalia, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Som Parkash, Sudarshan Bhagat, V Muraleedharan, former Army chief General V K Singh, and Vijay Goel.
“There are three MoS—Ajay Bhatt, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, and Bishweswar Tudu—whose profiles have been updated, but they still retain Y-category security cover according to their last portfolio. The audit report also revealed that all former MoS continue to have three PSOs and four police personnel stationed at their residences,” the source added.
In accordance with standard procedure, a security review for Protected Persons, based on either positional or threat considerations, is conducted upon the completion of their tenure. Following this review, the Delhi Police sends a letter to the MHA for a final decision.
“After conducting the audit and identifying these names, the security division of the Delhi Police plans to approach the MHA. They will ask the Ministry to make the final decision regarding their security,” the source explained.
Questions sent to Special CP (security division) Jaspal Singh for comment did not receive a response.
The audit report also lists former MPs such as Gautam Gambhir, Abhijit Mukherjee, Dr Karan Singh, Maulana Mahmood Madani, Naba Kumar Sarania, Ram Shankar Katheria, Ajay Maken (now Rajya Sabha), K C Tyagi, Parvesh Verma, Rakesh Sinha, Ramesh Bidhuri, and Vijay Inder Singla.
