Mumbai News: A 24-year-old man lost his life on Wednesday night (1 January) after his head struck a pole near Wadala station in Mumbai while he was standing on the footboard of a moving local train, officials reported.

The victim, identified as Gholap, was travelling with a friend when the incident occurred. According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the train had just passed Wadala bridge when Gholap’s head collided with the pole along the railway track. He lost his balance and fell beside the tracks.

His friend and other passengers quickly pulled the emergency chain to stop the train. However, when the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrived, they found that Gholap had sustained severe head injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gholap worked at Indigo Press in Cotton Green and had recently returned from Kolhapur, where he attended his brother's wedding. Further investigations are underway.
