Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has revoked Stage-1 measures of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR. The decision was made following a decline in air pollution levels in the national capital. It comes just two days after the CAQM had implemented Stage-1 measures of GRAP across the region in response to a sudden spike in pollution.
According to an official release from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Sunday, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) for the day was recorded at 179, as per the daily AQI bulletin issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The sub-committee noted a significant improvement in Delhi's AQI, attributing it to strong surface winds, thunderstorm and light rainfall on May 17. The AQI was recorded at 179, falling under the ‘Moderate’ category on May 18 and the IMD forecast said that the AQI will remain the same in coming days.
Therefore, considering the improving trend in Delhi's AQI and IMD forecasts indicating that the air quality is likely to remain in the 'Moderate' category in the coming days, the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP unanimously decided to revoke Stage-I of the current GRAP schedule across the entire NCR with immediate effect, the release stated.
All agencies of the concerned state governments in the NCR are required to ensure strict compliance with all statutory directions, advisories, and orders issued by the Commission. This includes adhering to the rules, regulations, and guidelines set by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), as well as related instructions from the respective state governments and Pollution Control Boards/DPCC, across all contributing sectors.

In this context, all concerned agencies are also required to take note of the various actions and targeted timelines outlined in the comprehensive policy issued by the Commission to curb air pollution in the NCR and to take appropriate action accordingly in the field, particularly regarding dust mitigation measures, the release said. The Sub-Committee will continue to closely monitor the air quality situation and review it periodically to make further decisions, based on the air quality in Delhi and forecasts provided by IMD/IITM, the release added.
