Delhi News: At least eight people died and several others were injured after a massive explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening caused chaos in the area. The blast, suspected to have originated from a parked car, was so strong that parts of the vehicle were hurled into the nearby Lal Mandir, prompting authorities to place the national capital on high alert.
According to the Medical Superintendent of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, fifteen people were brought in for treatment following the blast. “Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. Three are seriously injured. One is in stable condition,” the official told ANI.
Delhi Red Fort Blast
The explosion shattered the temple’s glass panels and damaged the doors and windows of several shops in the vicinity. Fires were also reported in multiple shops soon after the incident. Several people are believed to have been injured, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed.

According to the Delhi Fire Department, “A call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage. A total of seven fire tenders have reached the spot. A team from the Delhi Police Special Cell has also reached the spot. Further details awaited.”

Witnesses said the tremors from the blast were felt as far as the Bhagirath Palace area in Chandni Chowk. Shopkeepers were seen calling each other to check on the situation, while nearby vehicles, including buses, were reportedly engulfed in flames.
The fire department dispatched six ambulances and seven fire tenders to the site shortly after receiving the emergency call. Firefighters and rescue teams worked to bring the blaze under control, while police cordoned off the area to prevent public movement.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear. “Initial reports suggest the blast occurred in a car, but its nature and cause are still under investigation,” an official said.

Security has been tightened around the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk and nearby areas as the Delhi Police and forensic teams collect evidence to determine what led to the explosion.
Expressing concern over the incident, BJP MP from Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal, said, “I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident of a car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station earlier this evening. This tragic occurrence in the heart of Delhi has caused great distress among citizens, and my thoughts are with all those affected by the incident.”
He further urged authorities to “conduct a swift and thorough investigation” and extended gratitude to the Delhi Fire Department, Police, and emergency services for their prompt response. “As the elected representative of Chandni Chowk, I stand in solidarity with the people during this difficult time,” he added.
