Delhi Traffic Today: The rising water level in Delhi section of the Yamuna River caused massive traffic snarls on Thursday as floodwaters inundated multiple key stretches in the national capital including Kashmere Gate, Ring Road, Outer Ring Road and the Kalindi Kunj area. Vehicular movement was rather slow at these points leaving daily commuters stuck for long hours in traffic.

Traffic congestion was also reported on stretches leading to Wazirabad, ISBT, Sarai Kale Khan and Ashram.

Frustrated commuters flooded social media with posts about the gridlock, describing the massive traffic where even a two-kilometre stretch took hours to cross. Some said they had no choice but to ditch their cars altogether and take the Delhi Metro just to make it to work on time.

Traffic police said heavy congestion was reported along stretches near the Yamuna river, with several points submerged. "Traffic jams were witnessed at Kashmere Gate, along the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, and around Kalindi Kunj where floodwater accumulated on carriageways. Diversions had to be made to regulate movement," an official said as quoted by news agency PTI.

Yamuna water level reached 207.48 metres at 7 am on Thursday, as floodwater continued to spill into nearby areas. Train operations from Loha Pul were suspended from 6:30 am on Wednesday due to the rising water level. Areas including relief camps in Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Yamuna Bazar, Geeta Colony, Majnu Ka Tila, Kashmiri Gate, Garhi Mandu, and Mayur Vihar were as flooded.

Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory

The Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters travelling from Chandgi Ram Akhara towards Rajghat to use alternate routes.

Vehicles have been asked to move through Signature Bridge, then take Pusta Road and Raja Ram Kohli Marg before proceeding towards Rajghat and other destinations.
