Delhi Building Collapse: A five-story commercial building collapsed in Delhi's Saidulajab, causing another five-story building behind it to tilt to one side causing it to develop cracks in several places. As a precaution, the building has been evacuated, jagran.com reported.
The death toll in the collapse incident near Saket Metro Station rose to six on Sunday. The debris of the collapsed building has not yet been removed, and some people are feared to still be trapped beneath it.
Rescue Ops Were Delayed
Rescue operations began immediately after the accident on Sunday evening, but a large crane was not called in. This slowed the pace of the rescue effort. Two large cranes were ordered for the rescue team after 12 noon on Sunday.
Local residents said that if the rescue work had been done on time, some more people buried under the debris could have been saved.
Neelam, daughter of deceased Parvati, said that until around 12:30 am, she could still hear her mother's voice from the debris, pleading for help. Due to a lack of adequate resources, removing the debris was difficult. Parvati Devi's body was retrieved 18.5 hours after the incident. Her daughter, Neelam, identified her.
About The Building That Collapsed
The building that collapsed in Saidulajab was a 400-square-yard building. Located on Street 5, between Arise Coaching and the canteen, the building's roof was tin-clad, while the back room was concrete. At the time of the accident, some students from Arise Coaching and nearby residents were eating lunch. Debris from the building fell on the roof of this eatery, burying the people eating there.
The injured include - Kshitij Pratap, Neelam Yadav, Anuj Dixit, Tarun, Saika Khan, Aastha, Aditya Sharma and Vishal.
