Seemapuri Building Collapse: In a tragic incident, at least three people, including a pregnant woman, were killed, and others got severely injured after a four-story building collapsed in Delhi's Seemapuri earlier on Wednesday. The incident reportedly occurred due to the cracks in the walls of the building. The tragic death of Gulafshan, the four-month pregnant woman, has sent shockwaves across the region.
'Contacted Father, Sister For Help'
The deceased had reportedly come to visit her mother in D-Block with her three-year-old daughter at the time of the accident. However, as the building collapsed, the pregnant woman also got stuck in the debris due to the less reaction time. As per the reports, Gulafshan was alive even after being buried under the debris and contacted her father and sister through a mobile phone.
On the phone call, she informed them about the incident and stated that she was alive, further asking for their help. However, Gulafshan had succumbed to the injuries by the time the rescue team could reach her, reported Jagran. Sabina, the victim's sister, repeatedly requested the rescue workers to track and rescue Gulafshan as she was still alive.
Building Developed Cracks
While showing the call log as proof, Sabina urged the officials to clear the debris immediately to save their lives; however, Gulafshan died by the time the rescue team could reach her. Earlier on Tuesday, the building reportedly developed cracks due to the earthquake, and the owner was vacating it. "According to statements of neighbors, the building had developed cracks due to the earthquake last night, and the owner was vacating it," the MCD said.
"In addition to the building, walls of an adjoining building have fallen, while the boundary wall of a nearby mosque has also collapsed due to the impact of the incident," the civic body added.
