Two people were dead and eight, including a one-year-old baby were injured when four-storey building including ground floor collapsed Delhi’s Welcome area in the Northeast region on Saturday morning around 7 am. Few people are still feared trapped under the rubble. Those trapped included 10 members of a family living in the building and a few other who were near it. 

According to Delhi Fire Services, a man and a woman were found dead after they were pulled out of the debris and their bodies were sent to GTB Hospital, news agency PTI reported. Eight other, who have sustained injuries were shifted to hospital for treatment.

A senior police officer said, "Around 7.04 am on Saturday, we received information at Welcome Police Station regarding the collapse of a four-storey building near Idgah, Welcome. When the police team reached the spot, they found that three storeys of the building had collapsed."

“We have received a call regarding a building collapse at 7 am,” a police officer told PTI. “Multiple teams are working, including seven fire tenders. Further information is awaited.”

The incident took place in Gali number 5 of Janata colony in Seelampur. Several rescue teams, along with 7 fire engines, have been dispatched to the location to carry out rescue operations and clear the debris. 

According to Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg, “A total of seven fire tenders rushed to the site. Three people were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital. Search operation continues.”

It was the locals who responded to the situation with their rescue efforts. It was informed that the family of 10 lived in the building. “Around 7 am, I was in my house when I heard a loud noise and there was dust all over. When I came down, I saw that our neighbour’s home has collapsed,” Asma, a local, told PTI.
