A MAN, named Ravinder Kumar, working as a labourer in Delhi before his arrest, used to get high on drugs, watch pornographic films and walks up to 40 kilometres to find his target for sexual assault and kill them. This is the horrific routine of a man who was recently convicted by a Delhi court. Between 2008 and 2015, Kumar allegedly targeted around 30 children, the youngest just two years old while the oldest was 12 years old, the Police said.

According to officials, the accused used to lure kids in the dark with money or sweets when their parents went to sleep in their jhuggis. He used to get this work done between 8 pm and midnight.

He would take them to an isolated building or an empty field and assault them. He killed most of the children in fear of being identified and caught, the Times of India (TOI) reported.

The court, which has convicted him in one case, will pronounce the quantum of the sentence in two weeks’ time. Kumar who apparently showed no remorse for his crime was arrested in 2015 at the age of 24.

Retired ACP Jagminder Singh Dahiya, as an inspector posted at Begumpur police station, arrested Kumar with his team in 2015. Dahiya recalled the horror and said the serial perpetrator was not just a paedophile, but also a necrophile. During interrogation, Kumar claimed that he killed the girls who proved difficult to control before raping them.

During the investigation in 2015, the accused showed at least 15 spots to the Police where he had allegedly committed sexual crimes.

"Many of the victims were from rural areas and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. That's why he managed to operate for so long," Dahiya told TOI.

Dahiya said Kumar visit construction sites in search of a child after the sunset. He kidnapped kids from shanties and raped them in abandoned buildings or isolated places, the retired ACP said.

In 2008, Kumar assaulted and murdered a girl after abducting her from her shanty in Karala. "When he wasn’t arrested in the first few cases, he became confident and committed more crimes," said a police officer.
