Delhi Student Suicide Case:  After a class 10 student of St Columbus School died by suicide, leaving behind a note accusing his teachers and headmistress of harassment.

The school administration has suspended three teachers and the headmistress after their names were included in the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the teenager's father.

The case was registered against them under sections 107 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) (common intention of criminal act) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The case that seemed to be a simple suicide turned out to pose a major question on the treatment of students in the school, as shocking revelations have surfaced so far.

Harassment was going on for over a year

The father of the student, Pradeep Patil, has alleged that the teenager was being harassed, mocked and ill-treated by the teachers for the last year.

The family has claimed that 16-year-old Shourya faced 'targeted harassment' in the days leading to the tragic incident.

What happened on day of incident?

The father has also said that on the day of the incident, the victim slipped and fell on the stage during dance rehearsal, and was badly scolded and humiliated.

As the boy started crying, the teacher told him, "Cry as much as you want; it doesn’t matter to me."

Child shared suicidal thoughts with counsellor

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the child had also reached out to the counsellor with the issue, the father claimed. However, no constructive steps were taken.

HT quoted his father saying, "His friends shared that he had shared about his suicidal thoughts with the counsellor, but she dismissed it".

Parents called over minor issues

The students of the schools have alleged that the parents are called to the school over minor issues. "They call our parents for minor issues, like if we spill water in the class," a student was quoted in the report as saying.

Repeated expulsion threats

The father alleged that the teenager was constantly threatened to be expelled from the school. Speaking about why they did not escalate the issue further despite the teachers' behaviour and the school's ignorance, Patil said he feared Sourya would be penalised. "At one point, they even threatened to issue him a Transfer Certificate," he added.
