Delhi Traffic Update: The vehicles heading towards Delhi, Dwarka or Gurugram via the National Highway 48 will face traffic diversions for the upcoming few weeks as Delhi Traffic Police has closed usual entry and exit points, according to a report by The Indian Express.

As per the report, the entry and exit routes have been closed due to ongoing construction work that has caused traffic snarls on NH 48. Accordingly, to ease traffic woes, the Delhi Traffic Police has created new entry and exit points on the NH48 using service roads, the officials added.

The officials added that the work on multiple projects is underway simultaneously, due to which the smooth flow of traffic has been disrupted.

Ongoing projects cause traffic snarls

The ongoing projects that have caused traffic snarls and necessitated diversions are:

-Construction of Metro-related work on the Mehrauli-Mahipalpur road

-Construction of multiple tunnels or roads on routes from Dwarka to the Airport, Dwarka and NH 48, and Dwarka and Gurgaon, and vice versa

-Construction on the road from Gurgaon to the Airport and vice versa

-Construction from Bijwasan to NH 48.

Diversions in place

-The entry to NH 48 via Shankar Vihar has been closed, and the traffic is diverted to the service road alongside.

-Entry to NH 48 has also been closed from a cut near Hotel Lohias and shifted to 200 metres to the service road.

-The Delhi Traffic Police has also created two new exits just before Shiv Murti and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) in Mahipalpur.

-The Telco T-Point, a crucial link to people travelling to IGI Airport, Vasant Kunj, Mehrauli and Dwarka, will remain closed. The commuters will have to use the service road along the Telco T-Point.

The new route diversions will remain in place for several weeks, and the detailed plan for this was sought by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in February.

According to senior officials, these measures have been taken regarding three choke points on the expressway: near Mahipalpur Chowk, Rasisson Blue Plaza Hotel roundabout, and Telco T-Point.
