Digital Challan Payment Delhi: Delhi residents can now settle their outstanding traffic challans instantly through UPI apps. The Delhi Traffic Police unveiled this new feature on Tuesday, announcing that traffic challan payments can now be made via the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), integrated across all UPI-enabled platforms.

Paying traffic fines has often been a struggle for many, with some waiting for Lok Adalats to handle their cases. This initiative aims to simplify the process and save time. When users receive a challan notification on their phone, they can simply open their UPI app linked to their vehicle’s registration number.

A list of any pending challans will appear, allowing for immediate payment. Once paid, an auto-generated confirmation message will be sent, and the payment status will also be reflected on the traffic police website.

For challans issued on the spot by traffic officers, payments can now be processed via UPI too. Traffic officers are equipped with handheld devices to issue challans. When a challan is issued, the officer will ask if the payment will be made in cash or online.

If the driver opts for online payment, the officer will input their mobile number and generate a QR code for payment. With the new integration, the challan will be visible on the UPI platform for immediate settlement.

To avoid fraud, always verify your vehicle’s engine and chassis numbers before making payments. Scammers sometimes send messages with only the vehicle's registration number. In contrast, official traffic police notifications will always include both the registration number and the engine and chassis numbers.

How to Pay Delhi Traffic Challans Through UPI Apps?

- Open your preferred UPI app (ex: Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm).

- Go to the 'Bills' or 'Recharge & Pay Bills' section.

- Search for "Traffic Challan" or "e-Challan".

- Choose "Delhi Traffic Police" as the issuer/authority.

- Enter either your Vehicle Registration Number or Challan Number.

- The app will fetch your pending challans. Select the one you want to pay.

- Complete the payment by entering your UPI PIN.

How to Pay Traffic Fines Online via e-Challan Website?

To pay fines online on the official e-challan website, follow these steps:

- Visit echallan.parivahan.gov.

- Select 'Check Challan Status' from the dropdown menu under 'Check Online Services'.

- Enter the required details and the captcha code.

- Click 'Get Details'.

- Press the 'Pay Now' button.

- Choose your preferred UPI payment method.

- After completing the transaction, note down the transaction ID for future reference.

What is an e-Challan?

An e-challan is an electronically generated document issued through the Electronic Challan System, which was introduced by the Government of India to improve service efficiency and ensure transparency. Traffic officers now carry devices that allow them to issue printed challans on the spot to traffic violators.
