Delhi Traffic Relief: Traffic congestion continues to be a major challenge for the Delhi Traffic Department, with frequent bottlenecks reported throughout the day, especially during peak hours. Commuters often spend hours covering short distances, and traffic jams persist even on Sundays in several parts of the city.

In a bid to address this ongoing issue, the Delhi Traffic Police has identified 12 key corridors that frequently witness heavy traffic due to minor infrastructural flaws. Out of these, three fall under the jurisdiction of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), while the remaining nine are maintained by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Following a joint survey with the PWD, the traffic police have compiled a detailed list of deficiencies contributing to the congestion on these corridors. Efforts are now underway to rectify these issues with the goal of easing traffic flow and reducing travel time for commuters across the city.

A senior police official revealed that the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the Delhi Traffic Police and the Public Works Department (PWD) to collaborate in addressing the persistent issue of traffic congestion in the capital. In response, the Delhi government has formed a joint committee comprising senior officers from both departments.

This committee has been tasked with identifying the root causes of traffic jams across various parts of the city and implementing effective solutions. During a recent meeting, it was reported that 12 key traffic corridors in Delhi suffer from minor engineering and structural flaws that contribute to frequent congestion.

As part of the initiative, two problem corridors have been identified within each administrative range, and joint teams from the traffic police and PWD have already conducted comprehensive surveys. The traffic police were informed during the meeting that the specific deficiencies on these 12 corridors have now been pinpointed in coordination with the PWD, paving the way for targeted improvements to make these stretches jam-free.
