The Delhi traffic police have decided to enforce a no-entry rule for heavy and medium goods vehicles on all days except Sunday. Entry and parking on public roads will be restricted from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

This restriction will be enforced on both sides of the Delhi-Mathura Road, the highway’s side lanes from Jhadsetli Transport Nagar to the Badarpur border, internal roads from Transport Nagar to Sector-58, Sector-24-25, and other areas, as well as on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway link road. It will also apply to the main roads in Chandawali and Machhgar when entering or exiting from the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Expressway towards Ballabhgarh, the Sohna-Pali-Dhauj route leading to Faridabad, and the Faridabad-Gurugram Road.

DCP Jasleen Kaur, cited by Jagran.com, stated that this order would not apply to emergency vehicles such as police vehicles, fire brigade trucks, ambulances and vehicles belonging to the army and paramilitary forces. Vehicles related to other essential supplies may apply for an exemption as per the regulations.

Notably, heavy trucks and commercial vehicles have become a deadly hazard on Delhi’s roads at night. Many drivers ignore traffic rules, leading to frequent accidents. In January and February of this year alone, there have been 122 road accidents involving these heavy vehicles.

Taking a strict stance against these heavy vehicles, Delhi Traffic Police is tightening restrictions on their entry into the city. Overloaded vehicles will no longer be allowed to operate on the roads. These vehicles include heavy transport and goods carriers, tempos, cranes, tractors, and delivery vans.

According to official statistics, cited by the aforementioned media outlet, road accidents involving goods carriers and other commercial vehicles have increased by 14 per cent from 2021 to 2024. In 2023, there were at least 267 such accidents, which increased to 294 in 2024. Previously, the numbers were at least 240 in 2021 and 258 in 2022.
