Delhi Weather Forecast: The India Meteorological Department has put Delhi on a red alert for rain and thunderstorms for Friday, which will remain in place till Saturday, May 3. As per the weather body, generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (30-40 km/h) will continue till May 8, bringing much needed respite from heatwave for the residents of Delhi-NCR. Heavy rain, thunderstorms hit Delhi-NCR early Friday, causing waterlogging and traffic congestion in several areas. According to IMD, daytime temperatures are expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius.
As per IMD, Delhi will not witness heatwave conditions for the coming days as cloudy skies will prevail with probability of rain. Maximum temperatures are expected to fall by four to five degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours and rise by two to three degrees Celsius thereafter in Delhi, the IMD forecast said. IMD has advised people to keep a watch on developing weather conditions. Apart from that, the IMD has advised staying indoors and avoiding travelling if possible. The residents must take safe shelters and avoid standing under trees. It added that people must not venture into water bodies and unplug electrical and electronic appliances if not in use.
Reason For Sudden Rain In Delhi
As per IMD, the sudden weather shift is due to factors such as moisture and wind patterns. According to the weather body, moisture and wind convergence over the region came from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. This was enhanced by atmospheric patterns in the lower and middle tropospheric levels of the atmosphere.
Upper air cyclonic circulations over southwest Rajasthan and northeast Rajasthan and adjoining northwest Madhya Pradesh aided the process. These conditions caused warm and moist air to rise bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, accompanied by gusty in Delhi-NCR
