Weather Today: No Respite For Delhi, Red Alerts in UP As Heat Wave Sweeps Plains, Himachal Expect Snowfall | Updates

Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue in many parts of the country for the coming week. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a warning that the intense heat is going to persist in the plains of northwest India, central India, and parts of eastern India.

The weather department said that in Delhi, there remains a possibility of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. However, the capital is not expected to experience a respite from the scorching heat, and the heatwave conditions are likely in several parts until May 28.

Extreme Heatwave In UP, MP, Rajasthan

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, strong heat waves are expected in many areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh between May 22 and May 28. Severe heat waves are expected, particularly in eastern Uttar Pradesh and eastern Madhya Pradesh.

More than 30 cities in Uttar Pradesh experienced temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, while East Uttar Pradesh touched 47.6 degrees Celsius, among the highest temperatures recorded globally this week. Red alerts have been issued for some areas of UP. India has also experienced below-normal western disturbances this month, allowing direct solar heating to intensify.

Extreme heat waves are expected in many areas of Rajasthan from May 22nd to 28th. Temperatures are expected to remain well above normal in western Rajasthan from May 24th to 28th.

Higher regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience light snowfall in isolated areas above 3,000 meters, especially near Gulmarg and Sonamarg. Rainfall activity is also expected in parts of Uttarakhand during evening hours, while Srinagar is likely to remain cloudy with cool winds.

Hot-Humid Weather In Eastern Regions

Areas of Bihar and Bengal are likely to witness humid weather with thunderstorms and scattered rain. The maximum temperature in Kolkata is expected to be around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 28 degrees Celsius. In Patna, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to fall to 30 degrees Celsius.

97 Indian Cities Among Hottest In World

According to AQI.in, 97 of the world's 100 hottest cities were in India on Friday afternoon. A severe heat wave gripped northern, central, and eastern parts of the country, pushing temperatures well above 45 degrees Celsius by noon.

Balangir in Odisha was the hottest place with a temperature of 48°C, followed by Sasaram in Bihar at 48°C and Varanasi at 47°C.

The list of the world's top 100 hottest cities includes the cities of Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, and Lumbini in Nepal, where temperatures ranged from 45 to 46°C. Apart from these three Nepali cities, all the cities on the list are from India.
