Delhi Weather: Delhi is set to experience extreme heat over the next three days, with temperatures expected to rise above 40 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for a heatwave, effective until April 10. This marks the first heatwave warning of the season for the capital. The IMD reported a significant increase in maximum temperatures across Delhi-NCR in the last 24 hours, accompanied by rising humidity levels.
Delhi Weather Today
Today, April 8, residents can expect a particularly hot day, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius. Humidity is forecasted to peak at 45 per cent and the sky will remain mostly clear. The yellow alert continues for today, as temperatures in Delhi are currently ranging from 39 to 41 degrees Celsius.

Delhi Weather Forecast
Looking ahead, the heatwave conditions are predicted to persist until April 10, with maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius each day. The temperature forecast for the coming days is as follows:
April 8: 40 degrees Celsius
April 9: 41 degrees Celsius
April 10: 41 degrees Celsius
April 11: 40 degrees Celsius
April 12: 38 degrees Celsius
April 13: 38 degrees Celsius

Delhi Weather: Strong Winds Expected On April 10
While the skies will stay clear until April 9, they are expected to become partly cloudy from April 10 onwards and remain so until the end of the month. Residents may find some relief on April 10, as thunderstorms and strong winds have been predicted for that day, along with high-speed surface winds expected on April 12. However, no heatwave conditions are anticipated after April 10.
Delhi Heatwave Alert
Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the IMD, has warned of an exceptionally hot summer ahead. He indicated that there will be more heatwave days than usual, particularly between April and June, despite the absence of El Nino conditions for the upcoming monsoon.
Delhi Heatwave Precautionary Measures
As Delhi faces its first heatwave of the season, residents are advised to follow heatwave precautions- Stay hydrated, avoid going outdoors during peak afternoon hours (12 PM to 4 PM), wear breathable cotton clothes and use protective gear like caps or umbrellas. Vulnerable groups such as children, senior citizens, and those with medical conditions should take extra care during this period.
