Delhi Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for lightning, thunderstorm and squall in Delhi for May 30, Friday. As per the weather body, the city is likely to witness gusty winds reaching 60-70 km/h. During this time, the temperature may also drop by a few degrees. Parts of the national capital received light showers on Thursday evening, bringing little respite from the hot and humid weather. Delhi has also experienced few significant storms throughout the month. On May 2, a dust storm brought 77 mm of rain with winds reaching up to 80 km/h. On May 15, dust-raising winds speeding to 50 km/h reduced visibility significant for nearly 12 hours.

On Friday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 27.3 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature may hit 37 degrees Celsius.  According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's AQI was recorded at 151 on Friday morning at 9 am. It is placed in the moderate category.

Southwest Monsoon Progression

Meanwhile, according to IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, some more parts of northern Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and entire Sikkim on Thursday. Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of West Bengal and Bihar during the next one to two days, the weather department said.

Rain Expected In Bihar, Jharkhand

The IMD also stated that a low-pressure area is going to develop in the northwest Bay of Bengal, leading to light to heavy rainfall in multiple districts of Bihar and Jharkhand. While providing details, the weather department stated that several districts of Jharkhand, including Deoghar, Dhanbad, Godda, Giridih, Jamtara, Pakur, and Sahibganj, are likely to receive rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds until May 30. Apart from this, a major portion of the state is expected to witness cloudy skies and thunderstorms on May 31.
