Delhi Rain: The national capital and its adjoining NCR region finally welcomed the monsoon with light showers on Sunday, bringing a much-needed respite from the recent heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the monsoon has officially covered the entire country by June 29, a significant development that arrived nine days ahead of its usual schedule of July 8. Light showers swept across various parts of Delhi-NCR on Sunday morning, signaling the onset of the monsoon and prompting a yellow alert across the region until June 30.

“The monsoon has covered the entire country on June 29, 2025, against the expected date of July 8, 2025," the IMD said.

According to the IMD, the forecast for June 29 indicates a rainy day for Delhi-NCR, with light to moderate rain expected along with thunderstorms and lightning. The sky is likely to remain generally cloudy, and gusty winds blowing at 30-40 kmph may hit the city, especially during the evening. The maximum temperature for the day is expected to hover around 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, while the city recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8°C on Sunday, which is 1.1 degrees below the seasonal average.

Delhi Seven Day Forecast From June 30 To July 5, 2025 

June 30: The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain. A yellow alert has been issued for rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 34 degree celsius.

July 1: Rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is predicted for Tuesday. The sky will remain cloudy, with the maximum temperature expected to stay around 33 degree celsius.

July 2: On Wednesday, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with rain, with the maximum temperature likely to remain at 33 degree celsius.

July 3: Rainfall is expected to continue in Delhi on Thursday. The maximum temperature may rise slightly to around 35 degree celsius.

July 4: The weather is likely to begin turning dry on Friday, with no rain predicted. Skies will be partly cloudy, and the maximum temperature is expected to be around 35 degree celsius.

July 5: No rainfall is forecast for Saturday. The sky will remain partly cloudy, with the maximum temperature likely to stay at 34 degree celsius.

"We need Safdarjung to report widespread rain to declare onset. We will look at the 24-hour rainfall data for the region as a whole, including west Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh to declare further onset,” an IMD official told HT, adding that the monsoon is advancing toward Delhi from western Uttar Pradesh.
