"Due to adverse weather conditions last night, some flights have been impacted. Passengers are advised to check their flight status regularly and stay in touch with airline staff for updates," the airport authorities said in a statement.

IndiGo Airline also issued an advisory, urging passengers to check their flight status before planning their journey.

“Last night's adverse weather in Delhi, continues to affect operations due airside congestion. While conditions have improved, delays in departures, arrivals, and ground handling may persist. We recommend planning your travel with sufficient buffer time, as routes to the airport may be affected by waterlogging. For real-time updates, please check your flight status on our website or mobile app,” IndiGo posted on X.

As many as 49 flights, including 17 international ones, were diverted at the IGI airport due to heavy rain and thunderstorms that battered the national capital overnight, PTI reported citing a source.

Flight tracking website Flightradar24.com showed that around 180 flights have been delayed and some have been cancelled at the airport.

The weather took an abrupt leap late Saturday night, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that lashed Delhi and surrounding areas. While the downpour offered much-needed relief from the intense summer heat, it also led to waterlogging in several parts of the city. Trees were uprooted in several areas due to strong winds.

The rainfall came just hours after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi, warning of severe thunderstorms, lightning, hail and squally winds with speeds reaching up to 100 km/h.
