Delhi MP Apartment Fire: A massive fire broke out on Saturday, October 18, at the multi-storey Brahmaputra Apartments, allocated to Members of Parliament, on Dr Bishambhar Das Marg in Delhi. The fire department received the information at 1:20 PM and promptly dispatched 14 fire tenders to the site.
“We immediately dispatched 14 vehicles, including TTL, as this is a high-rise building. So far, the damage is mostly on the stilt floor, and the upper floors are damaged externally,” a fire department official said.
Preliminary Probe Reveals Reason Behind Fire At MP Apartments
According to preliminary investigations, the fire at the MP-designated Brahmaputra Apartments was triggered by spare furniture lying on the ground floor, Times Now reported. Delhi Fire Service Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Bhupendra Prakash said that the spare furniture caught the fire. However, a detailed probe is still underway to determine the exact cause.
Prakash further stated that while a few minor injuries were reported, there have been no casualties so far. “The fire has been brought under control, but our work is still ongoing... There is no casualty report yet,” he said.
The Brahmaputra Apartments, allocated to several Rajya Sabha MPs, is located merely 200 metres away from the Parliament and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020.
TMC MP Raises Over Fire Response Delay
Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale raised an alarm over the unavailability of fire tenders at the spot, questioning the delay in emergency response when the fire broke out at the MP’s multi-storey Brahmaputra Apartments.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gokhale wrote, “HUGE FIRE at Brahmaputra Apartments at BD Marg in Delhi. All residents are Rajya Sabha MPs. The building is 200 meters from Parliament. NO FIRE BRIGADE SINCE 30 mins. The fire is still burning & RISING. Fire engines are missing despite repeated calls. Have some shame, Delhi Government.”
