Delhi News: A 28-year-old man was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital with serious burn injuries after his wife allegedly poured boiling oil and red chilli powder on him while he was asleep at their home in Madangir, South Delhi. The incident took place in the early hours of October 3, leaving the victim, Dinesh, in critical condition.
According to police, Dinesh, who works at a pharmaceutical company, was sleeping beside his wife and their eight-year-old daughter when the attack happened around 3:15 AM. He woke up in excruciating pain as the hot oil scorched his torso and face.

Delhi News: Wife Allegedly Threatened To Pour More Oil
In his complaint filed at Ambedkar Nagar Police Station, Dinesh told officers that his wife threatened him when he tried to call for help.“She said, ‘Agar shor machaya to aur garam tel daal doongi’ (if you shout, I will pour more oil on you),” he alleged.
Despite the warning, Dinesh screamed in pain, alerting his neighbours. The noise drew the attention of the landlord’s family, who lived on the floor below. They rushed upstairs to check what had happened but found the door locked from the inside.
Neighbours Rescued The Victim
Anjali, the daughter of the landlord, said her father repeatedly asked Dinesh’s wife to open the door. When she finally did, they saw Dinesh in agony, with burn injuries across his body. “She said she was taking him to the hospital but started walking in the opposite direction. That made us suspicious. My father stopped her, arranged an auto and took Dinesh to the hospital himself,” Anjali told PTI.
Dinesh was first taken to a nearby clinic but was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Doctors described his condition as “dangerous.”

Delhi Police File Case, Investigation Underway
Police said the couple had been married for eight years and often quarrelled. Two years ago, the woman had approached the Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell, but the issue was settled after mediation.
Based on Dinesh’s statement, police registered a case under sections 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous means), 124 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by acid), and 326 (causing injury by fire or explosive substance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Officials said no arrest has been made so far and the investigation is ongoing.
