A 34-year-old woman, resident of Alipur in Delhi and her 28-year-old boyfriend, resident of Sonipat, have been arrested by Delhi police for killing the woman’s husband and dumping his body in a drain in Haryana's Sonipat, an official said on Saturday.
While Soniya and Rohit have been apprehended, the third accused, Viajy, is on the run. As per the police, the woman killed her husband over her affair with Rohit and the alleged abusive behaviour of the victim.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said, "The victim, Pritam Prakash (42), was a known history-sheeter in Alipur. He had more than 10 cases registered against him, including those under the Arms Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He had also been declared a proclaimed offender by the court."

The story began on July 5, 2024, when the victim, Pritam, came to Soniya’s sister’s place in Sonipat, Haryana, to pick her up, but left from there after an argument. Soniya offered 50 thousand rupees to her sister’s brother-in-law, Vijay, to get her husband killed after he left Sonipat. Later on the same night, Soniya let Pritam stay at her sister’s place in Sonipat after he pleaded with her. Vijay killed Pritam on the same night when Soniya was sleeping on the terrace and dumped his body in a drain near Agwanpur. Vijay sent her a video of the body on social media, which was later deleted.

Soniya filed a missing person complaint at the Alipur police station in Delhi on July 20, saying that her husband left home and never came back. The police became suspicious after no financial or digital presence of Pritam could be found for several weeks.
During the investigation, the team traced the mobile number linked to Pritam, which had become active again after nearly a year. Surveillance revealed that the phone was being used in Sonipat, leading the team to Rohit. On being questioned, Rohit initially misled the investigators but later broke down and confessed to the crime, police said.
Rohit confessed to the police that he was in a relationship with Soniya and they had conspired to kill Pritam. He also admitted that Soniya had given a huge amount to Vijay to kill her husband.
An unverified male body was found at nearly the same time by Haryana police; the case could not be solved until recently, when Delhi police was successful in connecting the dots.
Police said Soniya later sold Pritam's auto rickshaw for Rs 4.5 lakh and gave his mobile phone to Rohit. DNA samples preserved during the Haryana post-mortem will now be used to conclusively identify the body.
Soniya and Pritam married against family wishes when she was 15 years old, and the couple has three children, including a 16-year-old boy and two daughters.
