Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Update: In a major relief for the travellers, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is expected to be completed by October this year, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed in a written reply to the question in the Rajya Sabha.
On July 23, Gadkari said to Rajya Sabha, "The Dehradun–Delhi access-controlled highway with a total capital cost of ₹11,868.6 crore is targeted for completion by October 2025."
Travel time to be slashed by 4 hours
The six-lane expressway is a game-changer in enhancing the connectivity for the travellers of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The 210 km expressway will cut the travel time from 6.5 hours to 2.5 hours.
Transportation, Tourism to get boost
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will also enhance the goods transportation system for faster movement, while also helping to boost tourism as Delhi and Uttarakhand are popular tourist destinations.
Moreover, the expressway comes with a 12-km elevated wildlife corridor near the Rajaji National Park. It is designed to facilitate safe movement for animals with unhindered vehicular traffic above.
The expressway will originate at Delhi's Akshardham and pass through Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and Saharanpur to reach Dehradun.
With 113 underpasses, 62 bus shelters, tunnels, and dedicated underpasses for animal crossings, the expressway will provide seamless connectivity and smoother driving.
In the Rs 11,868 crore expressway project, a three-lane tunnel spanning 340 metres has also been built at a cost of Rs 1,995 crore. The expressway also provides connectivity for Haridwar and the Char Dham Highway network.
