Delhi-Gurugram Expressway: Commuters between Delhi and Gurugram can finally expect a major breather from the daily traffic chaos. A new elevated road above the Dwarka Expressway tunnel stretching from Yashobhoomi to Mahipalpur is set to become fully functional by August. According to a report by India TV, the only pending work is the final connection of this new stretch to the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway at Mahipalpur, which is on track for completion next month.

Delhi-Gurugram Expressway: Over 1.5 Lakh Vehicles Expected

Once the route get connectivity, the road will become fully operational for daily commuters. Authorities estimate that more than 1.5 lakh vehicles will use this corridor each day. The opening of this route is expected to have a direct, positive impact on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, which currently bears a significant load of intercity traffic.

The segment of the route that links the Dwarka Expressway directly to the airport is already in use. Notably, over one lakh vehicles pass through the tunnel which runs from Yashobhoomi to near the airport every day. This allows commuters to travel directly from the Dwarka Expressway to the airport and onward to Gurugram via the expressway.

Delhi-Gurugram Expressway: Direct Route To Dhaula Kuan Nearing Completion

To streamline traffic towards Dhaula Kuan, a six-lane road is under construction above the existing tunnel, linking the Dwarka Expressway with the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway at Mahipalpur. This new stretch is in its final stages of development and includes two-lane service roads on either side for additional traffic support.

Although vehicles have already started using parts of this under construction road, there are traffic complaints due to incomplete sections. Many drivers currently avoid the road because of these delays. However, once the work wraps up, it is expected to become a preferred route for thousands of commuters.

50,000 Vehicles To Shift, Reducing Load On Delhi-Gurugram Expressway

Once fully open, the road is projected to handle over 50,000 vehicles daily, significantly reducing pressure on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. Experts believe that roughly 80 percent of the traffic expected on the new stretch consists of vehicles that currently use the older expressway.

According to experts, if a tunnel is constructed from Mahipalpur to the airport from the Gurugram side, the congestion witnessed from the Sirhaul border to Mahipalpur might reduce considerably, India TV reported.
