Delhi-Katra Expressway: Work Completed in Haryana, Punjab Section Nearing Finish Line

The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is already operational across its 116-km stretch in Haryana and nearing completion in Jammu and Kashmir. Punjab's section is expected to be completed by December. Once fully functional, the expressway will greatly ease the pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi and significantly reduce travel time.

The expressway passes through Gohana in Sonipat, with vehicle entry and exit points constructed at Rukhi village (on Rohtak-Panipat NH 709) and Gangana village (on Gohana-Jind 352A highway).

Previously, travellers from Delhi to Katra had to take the GT Road via Ambala and Punjab, covering 727 km, often taking 12 to 13 hours due to heavy traffic. With the new expressway, the distance will reduce to 670 km, saving 57 km and up to 6–7 hours of travel time.

Delhi-Katra Expressway: Punjab & Jammu Route Details

In Punjab, the expressway will pass through Patiala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, and Pathankot, before heading to Jammu. Punjab will host the longest section of the expressway.

With the launch of the expressway, industrial interest in Gohana is growing, as land prices in Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Sonipat are soaring. Investors are eyeing Gohana for better land value and connectivity. Several large industrial units have already started operations on the Gohana-Panipat road.

From Rukhi, drivers can reach Nilothi (Jhajjar) via a 34-km stretch and connect to the KMP Expressway, leading to Delhi’s Tikri Border. To reach Punjab, drivers can use either the Rukhi or Gangana exits to get to Kharak Pandwa via Jind and Kaithal.
