Earlier in the day, Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory at 3:35 pm, alerting travellers that operations could be affected due to deteriorating weather conditions from 3:15 pm onwards. Passengers were advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight updates.
The sudden weather change brought much-needed relief from the intense heat wave gripping Delhi and surrounding cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. Cloud cover and showers brought down the temperature, offering a welcome break for residents.
At around 2 pm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather alert for Delhi and adjoining areas in the National Capital Region, as well as parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The forecast included thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds expected to hit within two hours.
The IMD warned of the possibility of hailstorms and thunderstorms in isolated areas, along with heavy rain, lightning, and wind speeds between 50 and 70 km/h across locations including Noida, Faridabad, and other affected regions.
