Delhi Weather: Light rain fell over some areas of Delhi on Friday afternoon, mainly in West Delhi, bringing brief relief from the ongoing heat. The showers lasted around 10–15 minutes before the sun returned, but the early morning cloud cover offered a short-lived break for residents.

Dark clouds earlier in the day brought a sense of relief across the city, although the showers remained limited. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting rain and strong winds through June 23.

According to IMD, the southwest monsoon is expected to reach the national capital by June 22, which could bring more sustained relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions. On Thursday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 degrees C and a minimum of 27.2 degrees C. Humidity levels remained high, with Friday morning reporting a relative humidity of 77 per cent. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely later in the day.

The city also saw a notable improvement in air quality. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 89 on Thursday placing it in the 'satisfactory' category. Specific locations across Delhi recorded varied AQI levels: 71 in Shadipur, 69 in Punjabi Bagh, 59 in North Campus (DU), 53 in Lodhi Road, 104 in Jahangirpuri, 51 in Mandir Marg, and 51 at Burari Crossing the lowest among all. Mundka recorded the highest AQI at 129, categorised as 'moderate'.

As per CPCB classifications, AQI between 51-100 is considered satisfactory, while readings between 101-200 are moderate. With rain and the advancing monsoon, both temperatures and pollution levels are expected to decrease further in the coming days, providing temporary relief to Delhiites.
