The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fined IndiGo Airlines Rs 20 lakh for failing to use ‘qualified simulators’ for pilot training at 'Category C' aerodromes. The airline’s parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, disclosed the penalty in a stock exchange on Wednesday.
According to the regulatory notice dated September 26, the DGCA fined IndiGo for allegedly failing to use qualified simulators during pilot training, a mandatory requirement under aviation safety guidelines, Times Now reported.
“Details of violation(s)/contravention(s) committed or alleged to be committed: Alleged failure to use qualified simulators for pilot training at Category C Aerodromes,” the airline’s parent company said.
IndiGo To Challenge DGCA’s Fine, Says “No Operational Impact”
In its official response, InterGlobe Aviation said that it will challenge the DGCA’s order through an appropriate appellate forum. The company also reassured stakeholders and investors that there will be “no material impact” on the airline’s operations.
“The Company is in the process of contesting this Order before the appropriate appellate authority. There is no material impact on financials, operations or other activities of the Company,” the company said in a regulatory statement.
The airline attributed the delay in publicly disclosing the order to internal communications delays, denying any intentional withholding of information.
“The delay in disclosure was unintentional and was caused due to a delay in internal communication of details pertaining to the order,” the airline added.
