Across India, the month of October is filled with major festivals such as Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. With Diwali and Chhath being celebrated nationwide in the coming days, various state governments have started announcing school holidays. Below is a state-wise breakdown of the declared school holidays for the festive season.
School Holiday Schedule For Diwali And Chhath 2025
Rajasthan: 12-Day Holiday Break
The Director of Secondary Education, Sitaram Jat, has issued an order revising the Diwali holiday schedule for schools in Rajasthan. The holidays, which were previously scheduled from October 16 to October 27, have been advanced and will now commence from Monday, October 13. Including the preceding Sunday, October 12, this provides a total break of 12 days. All government and private schools in the Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions will remain closed during this period. Schools in Rajasthan are scheduled to reopen on Saturday, October 25.
Bihar: Longest Break for Diwali and Chhath
To accommodate both Diwali and the significant Chhath Puja festival, schools in Bihar will have a lengthy 10-day holiday. All government and private schools across the state will be closed from Monday, October 20, to Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Uttar Pradesh: 4-Day Diwali Vacation
In Uttar Pradesh, schools have been granted a four-day holiday for Diwali, from Monday, October 20, to Thursday, October 23. With Sunday, October 19, preceding this break, students and staff will effectively get a five-day vacation. This directive applies to all government and private schools in the state.
Haryana: 5-Day Holiday Period
For the Diwali festival, schools in Haryana will remain closed for five days, from Sunday, October 19, to Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Other states, including Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, have also announced holidays. Students are advised to confirm the specific dates with their respective schools, as the holiday schedule may vary by state and individual educational institution.
