Liquor Ban On Diwali: As India celebrates the festival of light today, symbolising joy, unity, and positivity, a few states and union territories have imposed a complete ban on the sale of alcoholic substances to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
Dry Day In Delhi: Liquor Shops Closed In National Capital
The administration in the national capital, Delhi, has announced a complete ban on the sale and serving of liquor.
The Excise Department of the Delhi government has issued a complete ban order on the auspicious festival of Diwali on October 20. According to the order from the excise department in Delhi, the sale of liquor is not allowed in Delhi today, leadint to the closure of all the liquor shops in the national capital.
The Delhi government has also warned the violators of strict action. All licensed liquor shops and outlets, including government and private license holders, will be prohibited under the order. Moreover, the hotels and restaurants will also be barred from serving liquor to customers.
The authorities have clarified that liquor sales will resume as usual on other days, including Govardhan Puja (October 22) and Bhai Dooj (October 23).
Diwali 2025: Dry-Day In UP And MP
Along with the national capital Delhi, the northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh will also observe a dry day, strictly prohibiting liquor sales and consumption in public places.
To maintain law and order during the festive season, the administration will intensify surveillance. Violating the dry day restrictions may result in fines or legal action. While some other states and union territories haven't announced dry days yet, citizens are advised to stay informed about local regulations.
