As Diwali draws near, the prices of dry fruits and nuts have shot up sharply across markets, making them increasingly unaffordable for the average consumer. Traders attribute the steep hike not only to festive demand but also to import disruptions caused by the ongoing tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan, two major suppliers of dry fruits to India.
According to traders, the price of cashews in the wholesale market has increased by Rs 100 per kg in just one month, rising from Rs 730 to Rs 830 per kg. In the retail market, the same cashews are now being sold for Rs 900 to Rs 950 per kg.

Similarly, almonds have surged from Rs 320 to Rs 400 per kg, while walnuts, which were priced at Rs 400 per kg, are now selling for Rs 520 per kg.
Wholesaler Anshul Varshney said that the impact of reduced imports and rising demand has pushed up the prices of all dry fruits, including raisins, pistachios, makhana, and gola (dried coconut), by Rs 100-Rs 150 per kg. He added that prices are expected to continue climbing until Diwali.
