India is set to enhance railway travel for its passengers by unveiling the Vande Bharat 4.0 railway by rolling out the next generation of Vande Bharat, Vande Bharat 4.0 in the coming 18 months. The announcement was made by Ashwini Vaishnaw at the 16th International Rail Equipment Exhibition held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.

Currently, the third-generation of Vande Bharat Express i.e. Vande Bharat 3.0 trains are in service. Hailing the success of the third generation of Vande Bharat, the Railway minister said, “Vande Bharat Express has been a remarkable success, adding that the train stands on par with some of the best in the world in terms of technical standards.”

He further said that the Vande Bharat is at par with the international standards, highlighting the fact that the trains attain a speed of 0 to 100 km/hr in 52 seconds. This speed is better than some of the best trains that run in Europe and Japan.

When Will Vande Bharat 4.0 Be Functional?

The railway minister said that Vande Bharat 4.0 will roll out in India in the next 18 months. He said that the upgraded version will have major upgrades both in performance and passenger experience. 

“Vande Bharat 4.0 is expected to be launched within the next 18 months, aiming to set global benchmarks in every aspect of performance and passenger experience. The goal is to establish Vande Bharat 4.0 as the global standard, a train so advanced in quality and comfort that countries around the world would aspire to adopt it,” Vaishnaw added.

High Speed Corridors

In his address, Vaishnaw also talked about the plans of Indian Railways in developing a 7,000 km stretch of high-speed corridor by 2047. The corridor will feature trains running at the speed of 350 km/hr.
