Doctors Assault Case: More than a month after being threatened and assaulted at a civic-run hospital in Maharashtra's Dombivli, one of the doctors remains deeply traumatised. Speaking to NDTV, the doctor's lawyer stated that his client is living in constant fear and has not returned to the city where he worked.
'My Client Has Been In Trauma Since The Day Of Incident'
Dr Vaibhav Salunkhe remains deeply shaken following the July 6 attack, according to his lawyer, Advocate Ajinkya Adsul. Speaking after the Bombay High Court granted bail to Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre and three of his associates, Adsul stated, "My client has been in trauma since the day of the incident."
Adsul revealed that the doctor received more than 95 calls following the incident. "We do not know whether those were threat calls or calls for some other reason, but he received more than 95 calls, which has added to his fear and trauma," Adsul said.
He added that Dr Salunkhe continues to suffer from health issues linked to the incident.
The lawyer further stated that the doctor left Kalyan for his hometown of Washim immediately after the incident. "He did not even go back to his PG in Kalyan, where he used to stay, even to collect his belongings," Adsul said.
The doctor returned to the city only two days ago, solely to record his statement before investigators and identify the accused.
'Iska Chehra Dekh Kar Rakho': The Sentence That Continues To Haunt Doctor
Adsul stated that a specific statement made during the assault has continued to haunt Dr Salunkhe. According to the lawyer, as violence broke out inside the hospital, Mhatre pointed toward Dr Salunkhe and told his supporters: "Iska chehra dekh kar rakho, isko baad mein dekhenge."
"Even when he sleeps, he sees nightmares of Ramesh Mhatre," Adsul said, highlighting the level of trauma his client is experiencing. "My client's only demand is to live safely. He has only his mother. He does not even have a father. He has nobody else to depend on."
Bombay HC Grants Bail To Shiv Sena Corporator
Advocate Adsul's remarks came hours after the Bombay High Court granted bail to Mhatre and the other accused in the doctors' assault case. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad imposed strict conditions on them, directing all four to remain outside Maharashtra until the chargesheet is filed.
Under the bail conditions, all four must report to a local police station three times a week in whichever state they choose to reside. Mhatre, specifically, was directed to stay within the jurisdiction of the Anjuna police station in Goa.
