Maharashtra: A 41-year-old doctor at a private hospital in Maharashtra's Kalyan was allegedly verbally abused and beaten up, marking the second attack on doctors in the state within weeks after a female doctor was assaulted by a Shiv Sena corporator in Dombivli.
The incident occurred around 11 PM on Saturday when Dr Yogendra Jaiswal, an orthopaedist, was examining a patient with a rib fracture. According to Dr Jaiswal, the situation escalated when the patient's son began addressing him in a disrespectful, informal manner while repeatedly asking the same question.
"When I asked him why he was addressing me so informally, he retorted, 'Who do you think you are—some big-shot doctor?' He then went outside and started hurling abuses at me," Dr Jaiswal told NDTV. The doctor added that when he objected to the verbal abuse, the man returned and assaulted him.

Dombivli Doctor Assault
The Kalyan attack comes just weeks after Ramesh Mhatre, a Shiv Sena corporator from Kalyan-Dombivli, was captured on camera hitting a female doctor in Dombivli. Mhatre and his supporters were then seen assaulting other hospital staff and nurses.
"We spend years studying and working tirelessly to save lives, yet we are met with violence instead of appreciation. This is completely unacceptable," Dr Jaiswal said.
Following the latest incident, the entire medical community has questioned the government on how hospitals can continue to operate in such an environment while demanding enhanced security measures.
