As many as four Army personnel, including an officer, were killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda on Tuesday. Besides, a policeman also died in the operation. All the personnel got critically injured during a gunfight on Monday and succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

Officials reported that the encounter began when the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation in the Desa area of Doda, following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area.

This fresh conflict brings the total number of Army personnel killed in the Jammu region over the past 32 months to 48. There have been a plethora of incidents in the last 2-3 years where security forces personnel were killed during a counter-terrorist operation.

Timeline Of Major Terror Attacks Where Security Forces Personnel Got Killed In JK:

- As many as four Army soldiers and one policeman were killed during a gunfight between security forces and terrorists in Doda on July 16, 2024

- Five Army personnel were killed, other five were left injured after terrorists ambushed a military convoy in JK’s Kathua. The incident took place in July 8, 2024

- One Indian Air Force soldier was killed in action, and five others were injured when two vehicles, including one belonging to the IAF, came under heavy terrorist fire in Poonch district on May 4, 2024

- Three Army personnel were killed and three others were injured as militants ambushed an Army vehicle in the Pir Panjal valley’s Rajouri on December 21, 2023. Two Army vehicles carrying troops were moving to an operation site when the terrorists fired on it

- As many as five soldiers, including two captains, were killed during engagement with terrorists in November 2023

- Over 10 soldiers were killed in twin attacks in April and May in 2023
- Four persons were killed when a pilgrim bus was attacked by militants in Katra in May 2022

- Four soldiers were killed during an encounter with terrorists in December 2021

Rajnath Singh Dials Army Chief:

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dialled the Army chief to take stock of the counter-terrorism operation after militants killed 5 security force personnel during a gunfight on Tuesday.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of our brave and courageous Indian Army Soldiers in a counter terrorist operation in Urrar Baggi, Doda (J&K). My heart goes out to the bereaved families. The Nation stands firmly with the families of our soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.The Counter Terrorist operations are underway, and our soldiers remain committed to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and restore peace and order in the region,” Singh posted on X.
