Dombivli Blast: The death toll in the Thane chemical factory blast in Maharashtra rose to 10 with the discovery of more bodies from the accident site, officials said on Friday. The incident occurred around 1:40 PM on Thursday when a boiler exploded at Amudan Chemicals in Phase 2 of the Dombivli MIDC area. Police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the owners of the unit.
Thane Chemical Factory Blast: Here Are Key Points
- An explosion at a chemical factory in Thane district resulted in the deaths of nine people and injuries to more than 60 others. The cooling operations are underway at the spot in Dombivali where an incident of boiler blast occurred yesterday.
- According to officials, the impact of the blast and the resultant blaze affected adjacent factories and houses.

- Kalyan Tehsildar Sachin Shejal said the death toll might go up as they suspect more bodies are lying on the premises of the devastated factory. “The debris is being cleared," said the official as quoted by news agency PTI.

- At least 64 people including many women from the factories in the vicinity, were injured and are being treated in different hospitals. AIMS hospital in Dombivli is treating two dozen patients, he said.
- A revenue department official stated that the 'panchnama' (assessment) will be conducted and further actions will follow.
- The Manpada police in Dombivli have filed a case against the factory owners under Indian Penal Code section 304A (culpable homicide), as well as sections related to explosive substances and hazardous chemicals.
- The affected chemical factory produced food colours and used peroxides that are highly reactive and unstable chemicals that can cause explosions under certain conditions, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said.
