External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump, MEA said. The Republican Party leader will take the oath on January 20, taking over from the incumbent President Joe Biden.

Trump will take the presidential oath of office, administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, at noon Eastern Time in front of the US Capitol in Washington. Additionally, JD Vance will be sworn in as Vice President of the United States on Inauguration Day.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday that during his visit to Washington, Jaishankar will also meet with representatives of the Trump administration. 

Jaishankar made a significant statement regarding Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election, which received considerable attention. Jaishankar had said that after the presidential election, many countries were anxious about the United States, but India was not among those countries. Jaishankar mentioned at an event, "I think Prime Minister Modi was included in the first three phone calls made to President Trump."

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for January 20, which will take place almost two weeks after Trump's victory in the US presidential election.

Before this, on January 6, Trump's electoral victory was certified before his inauguration, with no objections raised by any lawmakers as the number of states was announced in the House.

Donald Trump won 312 electoral votes, while Kamala Harris received 226 votes. During the certification on Monday, the total votes were confirmed, marking the final stage of the election process before Trump's return to the White House.
