The Election Commission refuted the allegations of "poll rigging" by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, adding that the allegations from the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha were "baseless". The poll body further stated that while the Congress leader makes several claims, he does not respond to the EC even after multiple attempts. The poll body further directed its officials to not pay attention to such "irresponsible statements". The clarification from EC came after Gandhi claimed that Congress has proof of poll rigging in the recent elections, adding that the officials "betraying" the country will not be spared.

However, the Election Commission has stated that it has been working "impartially and transparently". "We presume that any issue regarding conduct of elections would have already been raised through election petitions filed in the competent court of law by the INC candidates. However, if you still have any issues, you are welcome to write to us and the Commission is also willing to meet you in person at a mutually convenient date and time to discuss all issues. A convenient date and time may be communicated in this regard at the email ID," the Election Commission stated.

Rahul Gandhi had stated that the poll body has been involved in "vote theft" and was working for BJP. "We have open and shut proof that the Election Commission is involved in vote theft. I am saying this with 100% proof," Gandhi told reporters. "As soon as we release it, the entire nation will come to know that Election Commission is working for the BJP to steal votes," he added. "We believe that vote theft has happened at the state level (in Maharashtra). Voter revision had happened and crore voters were added. Then we went into detail seeing that the EC is not helping and decided to dig deep into this," he further stated.

"We got our own investigation done, it took six months and what we have found is an atom bomb. When it explodes, the EC would have no place to hide in the country," Gandhi emphasised. The remarks came amid the ongoing controversy over voter list revision in Bihar a few months ahead of assembly polls.
